We welcome the discussion by the ACCC following its investigations into the industry. After years of campaigning for registration of the industry failing it is nice to see support for better controls and threats to make companies treat consumers fairly. A good summary of this was presented on the Checkout program last week. Follow this link to view. And for the record, I am a university qualified audiologist running an independent clinic, sourcing my aids from a variety of manufacturers with choice being based more on which brands offer the best after sales service compared to aid with similar features. As the major brands i deal with now have ethical standards charters, i do not receive incentive payments, free trips if i sell more expensive hearing aids and as we offer free hearing aid trials we only sell hearing aids to those who have found significant benefit from the device. Please understand the majority of us came into the industry to help the hearing impaired rather than make our fortunes.
